Every place has them…litterbugs. I detest them, why you can’t take a coffee cup with you or a straw and a can is beyond me. Especially when there are bins around. It is also a massive issue here that the rubbish strewn around ends up in the sea. Not only does it look gross but it endangers animal life. Cats and dogs end up with their heads stuck in cans, turtles end up with straws up their noses, fish end up wrapped in plastic. I also don’t want to buy fresh fish and end up finding its full of plastic or cigarette butts it has digested!
So whats the solution? Well, one people need to to use bins…if in doubt they look like the below.
Two, you can become part of the solution. Each year, Latch Watersports organise a beach clean up and this year it is Saturday March 12th. For a couple of hours, you and a few bin bags walk along the beach and pick up any rubbish you see. Gloves and bin bags are provided as is water. Such a simple, great idea. Anyone can join whether you are 9 or 90!
Most years they collect in excess of 30 bags of rubbish as well as big items like tires, ropes and plastics. It’s an amazing feeling at the end when you see what a change you have made! Feed the can, man…slam dunk the junk and contact Latchi Watersports to book your spot. See you there!
